The Kokoda Challenge is Australia’s ultimate team event, combining endurance and mateship, as teams of four trek 96kms in 39hours. 96 km represents the actual distance of the Kokoda Track and 39 symbolizes the 39th Battalion who were the first Australian troops to arrive at Kokoda in 15th July, 1942. The event requires four person teams to trek through a route in the Gold Coast Hinterland which consists of rugged terrain and climbs totalling 5000 metres!

It is one of Australia’s toughest events and it’s not just physically and mentally demanding - it is also a fundraising challenge.

Teams commit to raising at least $1000 to help fund the cost of the Kokoda Challenge Youth Program, an early intervention program for young people from all walks of life which encourages them to learn the skills and values of discipline, tolerance, respect and self worth. Participants in the Youth Program culminate their 20 week training schedule by walking the actual Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea.

In just four short years the KCYP has been able to help young Australians and their families. In 2009, the KCYP is expanding to enable 40 young people to experience the opportunity of a lifetime in programs being conducted on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Tweed. The truly unique thing about the Kokoda Challenge and the KCYP is that it is managed and operated by a not-for-profit organisation that consists of volunteers who do this great work just to make a real difference to our community. The Kokoda Challenge Association receive no Government funding and rely entirely on the success of the Kokoda Challenge to operate their youth program.
